I am from dirt  to concrete...
  grit, determination, and work ethic
From home run to ace, blistering heat to numbing cold
teaching me the meaning of “cowboy up.”

I am from the land where Rams rule...
central Iowa with cornfields for miles to the north, south, east, and west
From the college in my dreams--an aspiring fifth grader
accepted with tennis scholarship, I am a Ram, reality unreal.

I am from music that ...
  on loop during my day, like a cannon in my ears
From Shinedown to Halestorm
rock music, more intense than the norm--this is my own bed,safe.

I am from a over-growing cells...
located in the alveoli, spread to bone
From saying goodbye to Grandmo
never saying no, constantly fighting it off. Suffocating on air.

I am from knowing, understanding the chemistry of the world...
peering through a science based window to the universe.
