I am the baby struggling to survive,
I am the baby with fluid in his lungs, and parents begging me not to die,
I’m from the “fight for what you deserve” family that taught me not to flee.

I am from prayers and miracles helping me live,
I am from the parents that taught me not to take, but to give,
I’m from the goose-cluttered parks and climbing the rickety tree.

I am from the youngest in the house,
I am from silence like a mouse,
I’m from the backyard with a game winning baseball bat and bruised baseball tee.

I am from the pond where I first fished,
I am from the court where the first shot I missed,
I’m from the place I feel free.

I am from the happiness within,
I am from receiving forgiveness for my sins,
I’m from the “always have your back,” siblings of three.

I am from “you can do anything you set your mind to,”
I am from “hello” and “how do you do?”
I’m from striving for my proud family.

I am from politeness, manners, and dedicated workers,
I am from sharp looks and cunning smiles and “the smirker,”
I’m from “be the best you, you can be.”

I am the Victor, I want to live and thrive,
I am the Victor, I want to survive,
I’m the one they call Victor. This is me.
