Where I am From
I am from Bible verses and church clothes.
From lip syncing old hymns
and hiding beneath pew rows.
I’m from shaky hands, stages, and singing for the crowds.
From “all eyes are on you”
and seeing my parents clapping and cheering loud.
I am from 11:11am on March 8, 2012.
From seeing my brother cry
and the daily reminder from the picture on the shelf.
I’m from forgiving, forgetting, and finding love.
From that one boy
and losing trust.
I am from gazing upon sunsets and walking on the dock.
From holding Grandpa’s hand
and skipping rocks.
I’m from a clean, cozy, and caring home.
From “I love you more”
and never feeling alone.
I am still from bible verses and church clothes.
From holding Grandpa’s hand
and never feeling alone.
