Where I'm From
I am from the Spanish tile roof,
the scent of burning candles.
From the vibrant black and white striped ceiling,
I’m from the house on E. Capitol.
I am from the hallways of Divine Redeemer,
from a class of 24,
from growing up with my best friend Maggie,
from losing to the same boy in the spelling bee each year,
I am from knowing to stay close to Him.
I am from falling off a slide at age 5,
from tears running down my face.
From clinging to my dad as he came to my rescue,
from a broken collar bone.
I’m from an adventurous, optimistic outlook.
From climbing Dunn’s River Falls,
to giving ten inches to locks of love.
From the wise words of my father,
to never give up.
From the youngest of three girls.
I’m from aspiring to be like them.
From fights over stolen clothes
and the best of friends.
I am from Arrowhead High School.
From a class of 550 students,
I’m from making new, life-lasting friendships.
I am from delectable Superman ice cream.
from refreshing taste on a scorching hot day,
From listening to Kenny Chesney in the summertime.
From swimming to the pier on Elkhart Lake.
I’m listening to waves crash underneath my feet.
I am from a fear of the unknown.
From a desire to know my future,
Anxious to know what the future holds.
From wishing for a glance at what’s to come...
