And Then
And then it was all so vivid...
We got out of our car,
and walked down to the bluff,
and embrace the freezing wind
blowing on our frozen faces.
We stood and gazed at stars,
I inched a little close to your side.
And then you said it.
“Let’s try, for the sake of trying it.”
And then we tried it.
And you were sober.
And so was I.
And your hair got in the way,
but I didn’t mind.
I brushed it aside.
And then we kept trying.
But we stopped,
and I drove you home,
and I smiled the whole time.
And then I called you.
And you said you felt lost,
that you didn’t know what it meant.
But that it didn’t feel right.
But I knew.
And I still know.
And then I realized that maybe I love you.
And then I realized that maybe you do too.
And then I realized that it doesn’t matter.
