The Recent Shootings in Kansas
We feel tragedy in our own
Different ways, like grief or anger
Yet it doesn’t strike you as real
Until it hits home.
The hours keep ticking their steady
Melancholy song
Humans made time;
No other life form counts down
Seconds
Minutes
And hours the way we do.
“Time doesn’t stop for anyone?”
But why doesn’t it?
Couldn’t we tell the rhythmic clock?
Hands to stop, if only for a minute?
We should have a moment
To acknowledge tragedy
That hits close to home
A moment to remember
Tragedy is never experienced alone.
