New Day
The rain and it’s clouds
engulf me in shroud
hiding what could be,
past the tears and the sadness,
the sun and a blue sky
no holdups around.
A new day I walk in,
I see a dog’s pawprints,
on the ground marking
the soft earth and dirt,
which make up my path
as I walk to work.
Then I realize that
the clouds never left,
I’ve just been pretending
yesterday was the last
time I’d think about the past.
As it turns out the new day
holds memories and thoughts
which I dropped to the ground,
and only noticed again
when I looked down.
They say the new day
should be better than the last,
but is that saying much
considering what
happened in the past?
