I am Still Here
You and I
were 5 years old
conquering the world
side by side.
We made a secret handshake
and vowed to protect eachother
from the hormonal giants
we heard were called
6th Graders.
You were shorter than me
But it was okay
Because you were my hero.
Years went by,
And we kept that bond
But then you started to drift away.
And there I was,
Pulling you back
Back to where I was
Because I didn't want to let my best friend go.
And then you found her
And it left me devastated
Not because I was in love,
with you
But because I had failed you.
I had let you slip
Out of my arms
And into hers.
You were drowning when she left
And I ran to the rescue
Because I could not lose you
Again.
I brought you to shore
And filled your hurting heart with my love
and once you were fixed,
You found another girl.
And another, and another.
And I became your inhaler
Only there when you need me
Never because you want me.
We're 17 now, and I'm still here,
And they, are long gone,
But I won't give up on you
Because no matter what
You'll always be my best friend.
