Where I'm from poem
I’m from cellphones and computers
From the large pecan tree in the back yard
I’m from the gas stove in the old white house on the corner of the street
I’m from the bright yellow honeysuckles growing along grandma’s fence
I’m from hot pockets and cheeto puffs
From The Bridge to Terabithia
I’m from the “Watch your mouth!” And “Do your homework.”
I’m from the “God loves all his children.”
I’m from Lyndsey and Elizabeth
From cornbread and bluebonnets
I’m from the snakes killed with a shovel
I’m from the photos on the mantel and in the old suitcase
Reigning high above all and deep down below
I’m from the intertwined tree whose leaves are holding strong
