The Plunge
The book feels heavy in my hand,
a weight created only by imagination and time.
The front cover is cold unlike the title
that left third degree burns across my mind.
To open it and crush the image of "untouched"
seems almost cruel but leaving it closed is unthinkable.
The pages are crisp and sharp against my fingertips.
They stand at attention, stiff and straight.
The smell of the pages is nostalgic and I thumb through to the first page.
On this page is the start of a map of different lives.
Characters, relationships, and plots that intertwine.
Obstacles and villains that lead me down a rabbithole of plot twists,
and I'm more than willing to take the plunge.
