The Words Repeat Back to Me
The words repeated back to me
like pale death
those cold stones
isolated here on my heart,
engraved beneath the torpid flesh;
strange coming from you,
words that threw us apart
Clashing, beating waves upon rocks
And in all this I found you laughing
as if the night had not become black upon your lips!
The words repeated
Mockingly—
And could you not see my pain as you
carved them violently on my heart?
And oh, my once thought love!
Look here:
the sun is sleeping in the sky,
the birds are silent in the trees
After the raging
After everything
And now there is nothing
a sickness has approached
a forlorn tone has been sung
and in my heart it is resounding,
like pale death
has come from within
and the words repeat back to me again.
