The Raven
I carry it with me
I carry a burden
a big black bird
Clawing at my head and neck
and heart
Clawing at my ribs
aching to leave
and be free
I long to open my cage
But if I did
its big black wings
would knock out her haunted face
and shatter her broken life
still I wish
It lurks in dark corners of my mind
Whispering at the edges of my soul
Darkening my bones like the
ringing in an ear
or the pebble in a shoe
Stepping slowly painfully brutally coldly
Pounding my battered heart
Rubbing me
raw
Then I let it
fly
