You Are What You Are
I am left sitting
Correcting, judging and critiqueing
What I feel that doesn't make me
I was so busy fixing what I wasn't
That I haven't been iable to see what I am
Finding yourself is a process
Of which one cannot achieve through simply thinking
But through emotion, taken from that which they
Experience
The things that stick will stay
The things that don't will leave
Take from that emotion you experience
And let it stick and stay
Or let it fall from the essence of your being
You are what you are
And there can be no other way.

I have struggled enormously with self identity, and this poem was inspired by the endless obsession I've had with all things of which I am not. I learn a new part of me everyday. I seem to change often and I can never know what sticks because I've focused on all the things that don't make me, me. This piece is the product of my struggle.
