Where I'm From
I’m from car rides to Minocqua,
from baking cookie during Christmas,
from hanging with friends.
The crisp northern air filling our car.
The sweet smell
of the oven filling the house.
The midnight night giggles.
I’m from the daisies outside,
the sledding hill across the street,
the cut grass to hard not to notice.
The millions of hours my family spends outside.
Yanking the forbidden weeds.
From studying until 3am,
eyes blurred and squinted.
Starbucks my second home.
And the library my third.
I’m from the most supportive family.
“Trying your hardest is the best you can do.”
Allowing me to try anything,
always being there for me.
I’m from a loving home.
Pillows, blankets, fireplaces--cozy, cozy, cozy.
My room being completely mine.
And, I’m still from car rides to Minocqua,
from baking cookie during Christmas
and from hanging with friends.
