When the Poem is Finished
Let me finish this poem
While I still breathe life into my lungs
And I still have the inspiration to write
And I have the strength to stand up.
Let me finish this poem
Before you shatter the stillness
And the thunder crashes through the calm
And we have to say goodbye.
Let me finish this poem
Before the hourglass is empty
And the time is up
And my heart stops beating.
Let me finish this poem
While you might still be okay
And I'll still be waiting for you
And a happy day faces us yet again.
Let me finish this poem
So I won't fall apart
And I won't have to say goodbye
And you will be right here
When I'm finished this poem.
