Family Ties
Family is the hushed words of white-haired ladies
gazing with sharp eagle eyes,
concerned
Family is the small dangerous dwarves
Toddlers with stubby legs scuffling through halls,
Giggling through full bellies
Family is a ladled soup
Brought to a table with endless scratches,
Nearby sit grumbling grandpas
Their wrinkled pants surround an elderly card table,
Leather chairs listening in
Family is an array of cousins
Gathered from the world’s corners
Coming together with shared blood and halting curiosity
Many languages stitched- a patchwork conversation
Family is and has no reason to be
Against all odds,
Comfort
