Layers upon Layers
I was told to wear layers
But I wasn’t aware
That the layers to wear were also to spare
And now I wear them too often
Like an onion, too many
When peeled away tears are revealed,
Drip too plenty
I was told to wear layers
For weather might creep
And wind might blow
And the sun might be meek
But the layers I wear are too permanent now
I find them in places
I didn’t allow
I was told to wear layers
And as the years go by
I find more and more layers
Hiding, so sly
The layers I wear
I wear them with pride
Because, when I reveal the real me
I have nothing to hide
