Voices
How do you stop the voices in your head?
The screaming, pulsing whispers
Churning through the mush you call a brain.
How do you stop the voices in your head?
From breaking out at any point to say the words you feel and the things you think
The thinks you contemplate and understand and overanalyze
To make sure the right words come out whenthey have to and even then
They don't.
How do you stop the voices in your head?
The voices that have over and over caused you to turn
left instead of right.
up instead of down.
in instead of out.
How do you stop the voices in your head?
When you know that altogether
They... are your thought
sifting through the files
trying to find the words to say what you mean and describe what you feel
when in reality... you're Lost
Lost in a mae so carefully coiled into a clever knot so as never to be able to undo it
If you were to undo it, what would happen to the voices, the thoughts?
How do you stop the voices in your head?
when you know tha tsilence awaits if you do and that is worse than anyone could imagine.
This silence...
It is not welcoming, It is not endearing, It is not comforting.
No. This silence is the silence that is followed by awkwardness, saddness
More silence. Deeper silence. Stronger silence.
How do you stop the voices in your head?
The voices we so carefully call anxiety.
This piece was written for a Java Jive performance at my school one year and has to do with certain levels of anxiety I have felt in my life. My family has yet to be allowed to hear it so if they do see this, it will be the first time. Mom, I hope you and everyone else reading this take it for what it is and overall, enjoy it. Let me know what you think!
