Uncounted are born with their eyes wide open
The world clear as day
with every flourishing detail,
And then there are others.
Others born in the darken view of the world
Where all hope is drained,
And sanity becomes merely unattainable.
Where each day becomes a struggle between
Your mind and your body;
Because in the dark
You do not know you are blind.
As for now,
I want to tell you I am sorry.
To see you become so blind,
To see you become entangled in nothing but agony
In such a dark place
With no ability to aid you.
Forced to simply watch,
As you looked upon those around you
Surrounded by pure elation
Left to wonder how it felt.
To feel how easy it was to smile;
And to laugh;
And to stay there
In that moment of joy.
Yet the time we shared
Has become the memories
I will hold onto the most.
Every picture I will save,
And every laugh cherished.
There has never been another like you,
A soul so lost in the dark
That it learned to shine its own beacon of light.
A light so bright
It shone across each path you crossed,
Over every person you knew,
For every soul for miles to see.
The light that I saw in my darkest of times,
That lit the way for me through the dark.
An action done solely out of nothing,
But the kindness of your heart,
Because when it came to you
No one else should suffer
Even if it brought pain upon yourself.
For you will forever be
The soul who changed my life,
And my heart.
Thank you Owen Matthew Bohdan.

The author's comments:

I had the honor of being friends with a boy who recently passed. I could describe who he was, but he was different to everyone. The same person I knew was a different person that my friends knew. Nevertheless he has forever changed my life, and I will forever be grateful.
