To Save a Life
Do you remember all that you have seen?
Perhaps you can, though I can not.
I for one can not recall all the places,
In which I have been.
Yet, what comes to mind, is not these
Graceful, humored moments of good health.
Oh no, for I have been to all the dark and ashen depths
Of the human soul.
I have lived in mountains gray.
Painted by the smoke of fires I have lit.
Perhaps you too, can say the same,
Or maybe you still linger there.
Yet either way, those depths are there.
But I would never lead another there.
Although, indeed they will need no guide,
To show them thence, into those ashes halls.
So have pity for your broken brethren.
I indeed hold them in high esteem,
For they are the strongest of us all.
And it is up to I and we, to lead them to greener paths.
So you now are forced,
To ask yourself, weather you would do the same.
To pull yourself from the depths, or turn
And fetch your drowning friend.
For this is how I call you now.
To put your self at risk.
To pull the drowning to their feet,
And catch the falling from their ledge.
A bullet, a blade, a rope...
To pull them from the smoke...
To save a life...
