The Depth of Words
Let me prove my depth to you
And show you the proof of my life;
It is in each and every poem I write,
Hidden between the lines for you to read
And scattered among the fragments of my heart
For you to pick up and feel, each in turn,
Measuring their value and weighing their worth.
Find my spirit in the simplest of words
And take the outstretched hand of my poetry;
Know that I am broken but I take pride in it,
And hope finds a way into my shattered shards
And makes them masterpieces to behold.
That is where my depth is found,
In the pain and hurt that broke me
And let my saltwater tears flow into a sea
With vaster depths than any ocean.
So when you see my branches spread into the sky,
Reaching toward eternity
Through the leaves and twigs of the poem,
You'll know my branches stem from my core
And even more so the roots
That grow beneath and away from me, unseen
Yet always growing further and deeper
In search of new meanings and new poems
With the insatiable thirst for life.
Let me prove my depth to you
And show you the proof of my life;
The answer lies in my words.
