Little Girl of the Past
It’s over, so why do you still cry?
The tears belong to the past
Where the hurtful memories lie,
Yet your eyes shine with the brilliance
Of a heart flooded with pain
Too powerful to contain within.
Your sunlight has melted
And streams down the sky of your face,
Glowing like fallen stars
That no longer have the strength
To hold themselves up
And maintain their façade of bravery.
A melody plays, and it is joyful;
Even the song has moved on,
So why can’t you?
Why is it that every time you feel happy
You are also filled with sadness?
There’s nothing to worry about;
She forgave you years ago.
She might not be around to tell you it,
But I promise that she forgave you
And that the only thing she ever wanted
Was for you to learn to embrace your happiness
Whenever it comes your way,
And to not be sad
Because you can’t share it with her.
So be happy for that little girl of the past
Who lost her innocence too soon
And had to go away,
Because she is you and you are still here;
Smile in memory of the child
You were and loved and miss so dearly,
And give her a chance to be young once more.
