Where I'm From
I was from a house,
with an emerald green and golden yellow field,
and the sounds of blue birds chirping.
Now I’m from a narrow home,
with houses connected to one another,
and the sounds of neighbors yelling through the thin walls.
I was from a happy, lively home,
with noises in each room,
and the grand piano playing.
Now I’m from a quiet, lonely home,
where the rooms sit silent,
and the antique clock dinging every hour.
I was from a rosy pink bedroom,
with dolls scattered around,
and playing dress up with my sister.
Now I’m from a dull, grey bedroom,
with homework dispersed,
and clothes piled in the corners.
I was from a family,
with a mom and sister that helped me with homework,
and a dad that cooked dinner.
Now I’m from two families,
one with a mom and sister,
another with a dad, stepmom, and three step siblings.
I was seven,
happy, silly, playing outside,
and didn’t have any worries.
Now I’m seventeen,
determined, stressed, and tired,
but ready to leave my past behind and start my future.
