Best friend
I remember a time when
I was the starting quarterback
I was popular I was adored
By teachers and students alike.
If only I hadn't shared who I was.
My parents might still look at me as their son,
not some outsider sharing the same roof.
I used to understand you,
now I hardly understand myself.
I don’t know why I’m like this.
And I don’t know why you feel it’s okay
to publicize my uncertainty.
Someone I use to call “a friend”.
You told me “We would be best friends for eternity”
I guess you were all talk.
Or you didn’t realize people change.
Why did you do this to me?
My cries rang from the closet.
“Let me out!”
So I did.
You had absolutely no right to spread rumors about me
your “best friend”.
But I guess all good things come to an end.
Girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend.
End, end, end.
You did what any good “friend” would do.
Except for supporting me for who I am.

This is one of the first poems I have ever written, and I really enjoyed writing it.
