She forces the bill
across the marble counter.

She glides through
the milky way
discreet to balance the coins on top.

And hides her eyes behind
aluminum cans,
the coldness
against her
all she can feel.

The sparkle
the cream soda
linger
in her strangled heart.


The author's comments:
This poem is inspired by a can of Crush cream soda behind the counter in a pizzeria. The pouring rain threatens to put out blazing love and drown broken hearts.

this poem is really good. I wouldn't have realized it was about a crush until i read the title.
