What It's Like to Be Me
Surrounded by people
Yet, I feel so alone
Drained by my emotions
A constant need for everything everyone else seems to have
Being too much, too little
Categorized by those around me
Diminishing their curiosity
As if all I show is all I am,
As if there's nothing beyond the surface,
As if I am someone you can just set aside because you lack interest
I often think
About who would attend the funeral
Of a girl whose life was wasted,
Whose love was never reciprocated
A home packed with familiar faces
Wishing they hadn't set her aside for someone more "important"
Yet, I stand here before you today
Alive,
But still set aside
On a safety net called "there's time"
Forced to realize
That people only seem to care
When you're dead
