Beach Day
everyone is having fun on the shore
they seem to crave the warmth of the sun
as they laugh at the birds
those who are brave tread the water’s edge
shiver fast at the cold
beam popsicle smiles and
tip toe through tides
I stride forward
slow
cold creeps onto bare skin
I am still
as I envy the birds
I feel unfit for the heat of the sun
far beyond the shore
awaiting tears
I know I shouldn’t wish to drown but
perhaps to drown is to fly beneath the earth and
it’s fun to wash away

It's nicer to think dear, pretty thoughts and keep them in one's heart, like treasures. I don't like to have them laughed at or wondered over.<br /> -L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables)
