For the boy's heart I broke
This one isn’t for the boy
Who broke my heart.
No, this one
Is for the boy who I left
Heartbroken.
This one is for the boy
Who wrote his own poetry
About me.
Some really great
Poetry, I have to say.
Because I heard them all
And I even got them stuck
In my head.
You were, honestly
Amazing.
You were kind
And gentle
And you listened,
You really listened to me.
I was so ungrateful
For you
I don’t even remember
Telling you thank you.
You were my play thing
And even though
I actually did tell you
My heart was for someone else
I should have realized
What I was doing to you.
But honestly, I did try.
I tried to let my love
For someone else go
I tried to let you be more
Than a distraction
And sometimes it wasn’t that hard to try.
We connected
Like two bird with the same sound
And you felt that
And you were right
And I’m so sorry.
I heard you’ve got a girl of your own now
Someone who doesn’t treat you like I did.
You deserve the world.
You and I were never
Meant to be, but we were
Meant to be something
Then, so even if you never see this,
Thank you for being something with me.
Even if I blew it
I know one day,
You’ll meet someone
And understand why.
