Midnight
It's late.
I'm sitting in my room alone.
Downstairs my dog's paws scrape
The dusty wood paneling
In rhythmic beats.
Spoons clink with the delicious secrecy
Of a treasured midnight snack.
My sister's voice flows by in
Gentle hums through our shared bedroom
Wall, her friends murmuring on
The other side of her phone.
And I'm just sitting here.
Alone.
Staring at the chipped paint of my
Once neon, now faded green walls.
Trying to remember what life was
Like when I was excited to
Go to sleep.
When I was excited
To wake up early the next day,
Or even to wake up
At all.
