Dear Mom
You are a sewing machine
Twining bits of striped fabric into a blanket
Creating more love and life.
You are chocolate chip cookies
Warmth radiating through the house
As they rise, never ending patience.
You are the coffee kettle
Black, dark coffee, no sugar needed.
There was already enough sweetness.
Every morning, what I looked forward to.
You are the Harry Potter books.
So complex, so full of light and magic.
Stars dance in front of my eyes,
The magic wand made of devotion.
You are the radio in our bold red truck.
Blasting ‘body like a back hoe’
the cause of laughter.
You are the Nemo movie
The tiny orange clownfish, white stripes and all--
happiness
My favorite, my constant.
Always
mom.
