What Cancer Can Not Do
Cancer can not kill hope
Suppress memories
Take away friendship
It cannot silence courage
Cancer changes living but never controls you
You stayed happy
Tail wagging
Eyes stayed loving
They said you had two months
You never gave up
They said you wouldn’t function
Your life had no disruption
My room-mate
My friend
My first true love
How could you be hurting
You were truly undeserving
Four months still fighting
We were given an option
But nothing really could stop it
Each way leaves you suffering
Seemed to hurt me more than you
You stayed strong
I guess that’s why you stayed around so long
You didn’t know what was happening
We knew it was time
The vet was wrong
You stayed the same
I couldn’t see you in pain
That last day you knew
I gave you that last hug
Watched as the lord up above called you
That was the worst day for me
Your legacy lives on
There is never a day I don’t think of you
It’s almost been a year now
Days from now
Cancer may have taken your life
But it has never taken away your memory
Cancer can not invade your soul
It can not cripple love
Cannot shatter hope
Cannot corrode faith
It can not steal your eternal life
You live on in my mind
The memories will never be left behind
