Milwaukee Public Museum Poem
Deceased, Pioneer, Dormant
Egyptian mummy—Priest (Djed-Hor)
Djed-Hor, a deceased priest, lays in dark smokey bandages. They crowd the coffin
yet he is still utterly alone.
Djed-Hor, his soul aches to be a priest again, but only lets in darkness.
Djed-Hor, a pioneer priest, of serving a god, breathes in the burdens and hold his breath until his face turns purple and his vision turns blurry.
He yearns to know what’s on the other side, to know what it feels like to let go and meet a god.
But the weight of the coffin holds him to the ground.
Djed-Hor, a dormant priest, oh, how he wishes to break the chains, to let his wings spread and reach The Corridors of a new beginning.
But for now, he is kept heartless, guided by his Ka and Ba, preserved by Anubis god of embalming. He waits to join Osiris in the Kingdom Of The Dead.
