The Irony of Childhood
A day at a time they said,
But they made us think about tomorrow before we went to bed,
Hold on to all hope,
But they gave us no way to cope,
Dream big they would say,
But put limits on us to lock us away,
You are okay they would yell,
But how you're okay they'll never tell,
Do you know how many nights I spent staring at a wall,
Thinking that the order of life's expectations were just way to tall,
Do you know how often I spent just dreading tomorrow,
Do you know how long this life has been filled with sorrow,
They tell me to be a kid and then take my childhood from me,
The irony they do not see,
Sometimes I wonder how it feels to live without a care,
But I know that feeling is unreachable so I do not dare,
But if there were one night I closed my eyes without a single thought,
Then I would know that I'd learned nothing from the lessons life has taught,
But sometimes this anxiety creates a feeling of depression,
And I am still stuck here wondering what is this new life lesson,
Is it how to bury everything way down deep or how to let go,
Is it how to hold on like thunder or let go like the snow,
