I held my hand out

Hoping you would place your hand in mine

I wished that you’d stop lying to me

Every time you said “I’m fine”

But you never told the truth
You never took my hand
And you never gave me the chance
To tell you that I understand

You kept on walking past me
Down that dark and dreary road
You never took the time to stop
Or to learn things as you go

You forgot to unburden your load
To empty your wonderful mind
To enjoy the little things
And to simply relax and unwind

Your mind weighed you down
Your thoughts as heavy as stones
Cold and sharp as ice
Dark and bleak as coal

And you stood there before me
Thinking you were about to fly
Stood on the edge of a cliff
And waved your hand goodbye

You spread your arms out wide
Jumped without a second thought
But you forgot that you can’t fly
When your arms are filled with rocks
