Thoughts in the Darkness
It's not terror that keeps me
But the fear of being alone
In a world where alone means available
Every night I crawl into bed
Only to be greeted
by my overactive imagination
Most people sleep in a house
Someone in the other room
Friend, lover, roomie
But that not me
I only have my imaginary pets
I call them darkness and doom
They snuggle with my thoughts
Digging into my brain
Fill me with tangled wires and springs
It's not terror that keeps me
But the fear of being alone
In a world where alone means available
After hour upon hour
Of waking worry
Eyes roll back and head forward
Sleeping long into the day
Makes people wonder
What monsters slumbers under the covers
They bare crosses and bullets
Try to ward off the bags
While tangible enemies slip silently by
It's not terror that keeps me
But the fear of being alone
In a world where alone means available
You’re as a walking disease
They whisper hurtful things
Not knowing you can hear them
Only thinking to drag you away
An unnecessary part of society
A forgotten cemetery of long dead bones
It's not terror that keeps me
But the fear of being alone
In a world where alone means available
When you sleep alone
You can't help but worry
What lies in the darkness
What watches you slumber
Eyes begging for you to dream
Lips curl into a smile
Shadows linger at your door
Evil beings at your windows
Whisper the things they have in store
It's not terror that keeps me
But the fear of being alone
In a world where alone means available
We try to twist reality to fit
Tieing knots like our shoelaces
Hoping the truth won't break in
Who could sleep alone
When the night holds
The monsters from our dreams
Waking from a nightmare
No longer holds comfort
At least in your dreams you could wake up
It's not terror that keeps me
I just don't want to be alone
