Forget the diagnosis
Leave the doctors office
Go back to Boston
Rejoin the team
Return the tears back to the tear ducts
Forget the feeling of winning as a loser
Repeal the energy used game to game
Unvibrate my vocal cords that lied ok
that allowed me to play next shift
Be unexamined by the medics
Return the whaling back into her body
Unsee my best friend lying on the ice
Crawl back to where I laid for only seconds
Unfeel my brain hitting the sides of my head
Unbreak the fracture that sliced through my bone
Stick the jaw bone back into its socket
Unthrow our bodies back up that flew through the air
Unhear the crash of metal on metal
Before I saw her face before mine
When the puck changed directions and she did not
Return her eyes not looking
Unthink my frustration of the previous shift
Unsay our pregame chant
Regain the puck I shot during warmups
Release the adrenaline flowing
Untape the new white tape
Unbreathe the smell of the locker room
Unlace the skates I glide in
Take off the equipment that is supposed to protect me
Backwards out of the arena
Back to getting ready for Nationals
Revive districts
Reignite being champions
Unbare the pain
Go back to when I was ok

The author's comments:

I have been playing hockey since I could walk.  It is such a huge part of my life.  This year, I sustained an injury while playing ice hockey at nationals.  I am part of the U16 Princeton Tiger Lilies women’s hockey club.  I was hit and got a fractured and dislocated jaw, as well as a minor concussion.  Hockey is worth it.
