Santa Ana
It’s sunset in Santa Ana
And the clouds are stained orange
Kids are riding their bikes home
A warm July breeze briskly brushes the trees
Armando is closing up shop
The dimming light passes through the windows
A woman rocks in her chair on her porch
Birds sing their final song of the day
And crickets sing their first
An indigo tint carefully creeps into the sky
A candle’s flame is blown away
Glass shard stars are sprinkled onto the now black wax
It’s night in Santa Ana
And the clouds are stained gray

I wrote this poem based on a picture. The picture reminded me of my dads hometown. I based it off the stories he tells me about his hometown.
