The Race of Realization
Running running fast
Trying to keep up with you
Breathing breathing hard
I cannot keep up
Or even excel you pace
When did this happen?
Used to win the races
Like lightning, I used to be
Faster every time
Up until today
Always was quicker than you
Now my speed seems slow
Pushing, struggling
I know I'm missing something
I don't understand
Suddenly I saw
Lightbulbs went off in my head
And now i get it
For now you must help
And your dad instincts kick in
Running at top speed
Because she is hurt
Because she is in much pain
Screaming, crying, yells
In all those races
You allowed me to triumph
I was the fast one
But that was all false
Now knowing you let me win
Past triumphs shatter
Now is not the time
For the situation calls
This race you can't fake
