Sour Milk

A little birdie
told me at the crack of dawn
that he had heard so

I listened to him
once gurgling, splurging now
a river so white

I won't tell, promise
keep the milk in my mouth tight
a little trickle

spoiling, I taste
to let it out I must do
dribble down my chin

open wide, smile
pouring out an other soul
a curdling scream

sour on my tongue
yet still never has sweetened
try to wipe it off

little birdie come
clear the mess of your singsong
that rings throughout town

what my ears have heard
has been betrayed to my mouth
the chamber of sin

a flap of wing comes
rustling the tree so tall
a leaf falls on on me

pick up every one
each ocher leaf carried by
the menacing wind

you know in you heart
you can't cry over spilled milk
but don't let it sour
