For the First Time
Those old days were as cold as stones,
When I was on my solitude;
The chill like needles pricked my bones
I was frozen from where I stood;
Until the temperature did chime;
I felt the warmth for the first time.
I ne'er believed love at first sight,
For I never knew love at all;
I just found I --- a burning kite,
That I hadn't dreamed it would fall;
And then the words of love did rhyme;
I wrote an ode for the first time.
I heard romantic rhapsodies,
Soothing ballads and serenades,
But for me they were ironies
To what my heart felt in cascades;
Until they were acted in mime;
I learned their sense for the first time.
I drowned the past in the water,
And embraced the waking morning;
I felt love had gotten hotter,
Though 'twas sunk in a polar spring;
At that moment, I threw a dime;
I wished 'bout you for the first time.
