Teasing Dreams
I’m certain, I'm sure.
Dreams are simply a tease.
Just like the visitor.
They come and go as they please.
They leave me crying in the bathroom.
And craving the impossible.
On loop like some favorite tune.
Wonder if I’m also unforgettable.
Do you think of me before you sleep?
Which is minutes before dawn.
When you sit to watch a movie.
Or when the radio plays our song?
Do you try to forget?
By keeping yourself busy.
Light a cigarette.
Wishing it gets easy?
This morning I woke up with tears.
As realization hit.
A dream is where you appeared.
Left me again, feeling like crap.
You caressed my cheek.
And held my hand.
In the backseat.
Of our minivan.
My friends were all there.
And family too.
But you didn't care.
It was just me and you.
Your eyes full of sorrow.
Regret and shame.
You'd hold me till tomorrow.
Till the birds chirped our names.
You asked me how much we would need.
And I said only enough to get us out.
Cause plenty was our love so sweet.
Enough to go around.
Courageous and bold.
Yes we were.
Hearts of gold.
Love a blur.
Oh my sweet.
Where are we now?
In my dreams?
Or in yours? Somehow?
