The Stage
So-called princes have princesses
But what about all the peasants
Who can only watch her from afar
While the kingdom slowly breaks their heart
It’s you
That I long for every day
It’s you
That I wish would look my way
There’s so much that I want to say
But I can’t properly explain
How the whole world stops when I hear your name
I’m just looking up now at the stage
And no one can notice anything
When the prince is there making his speech
So I’ll stand here watching all alone
While you break my heart and don’t even know
On the balcony you stand
I tried to reach, reach out my hand
But he has already been through
And there’s nothing I can say or do
It’s you
That I long for every day
But you
Wouldn’t notice me either way
There’s so much that I want to say
But I can’t properly explain
How the whole world stops when I hear your name
I’m just looking up now at the stage
And no one can notice anything
When the prince is there making his speech
So I’ll stand here waiting all alone
While you break my heart and don’t even know
Mm, there’s a reason for everything
Maybe we’re not to meant to be
I could read a hundred stories
And none of them have you and me
But don’t tell me it shouldn’t hurt
When I’m stranded here in the dirt
While you’re happy, and outlasting every bit of me
My heart’s shattered into pieces
Is it okay if I’m going to break
Right here, right now, I’m not okay
The world is turning while I stay
Stuck in this fabricated heartbreak
Who am I to say anything
I’m just a peasant and you’re a queen
But the heart wants what it can’t have
And I can’t stop loving you like that
