Ask Me a Question
Looking back on our days together, I remember the love in his eyes.
He was Daddy and the smartest man ever. He would wipe my tears when I cried.
I'd say, "Daddy, can I ask you a question?"
And he'd just smile at me 'cause he knew it all.
He said, "Ask me a question, whatever you like.
Ask why there's darkness, or why there's light.
I'm ready to listen. Ask me what a big word means.
Darling, I just hope you never have to ask if I love you."
As I grew older I started to doubt him, started thinking he was wrong.
We had our share of arguments, and I missed what I thought was gone.
I said, "Daddy, can I ask you a question?"
And there were tears in his eyes, 'cause he knew my thought.
He said, "Ask me a question, whatever you like.
Ask why there's darkness, or why there's light.
I'm ready to listen. Ask me what a big word means.
Darling, I just hope you never have to ask if I love you."
The years flew by too quickly, and I was grown and in a veil
Getting ready to be given away to the new man who knew it all.
I said, "Daddy, can I ask you a question?"
And he shed a tear 'cause he knew it'd be my last.
He said, "Ask me a question, whatever you like.
Ask why there's darkness, or why there's light.
I'm ready to listen. Ask me what a big word means.
Darling, I just hope you never have to ask if I love you."
He was fading fast one night, with his grandkids by his side.
They wanted him to tell them what he thought Heaven was like.
He said, "Ask me a question, whatever you like.
Ask if there's darkness, or how much light.
I'm ready to listen. Ask me what clouds are like.
Darling, I just hope you never have to ask if I love you."

Good song! Keep writing
I could always ask him my questions, and I don't always understand his answers, but he's always happy to answer.
Love you Daddy!
