The Wall

I thought you’d always be
by my side,
Look now there’s
an empty swing next to mine.

Who says love is the only way,
A heart could break,
These efforts which were so clear-cut
Turned out to be fake.

I’ve given every piece of me to you,
We shared stories and laughs,
But it looks like you’re through,
Like you’re finally glad to be gone at last.

Yet I can‘t help thinking,
We’ve just come so far, after all,
To let this door become a wall.

After all the friends and boys,
You said there weren’t sides,
but you made a choice.

So I can‘t help but think,
We’ve just come so far, after all,
To let this door become a wall.

Empty texts and a lot of
silence to fill,
My mind is spinning
but the world is still.

I wonder if you even
miss me but I know,
Things won’t ever be the same,
I have to let you go.

Yet I can‘t help thinking,
We’ve just come so far, after all,
To let this door become a wall.

After all the friends and boys,
You said there weren’t sides,
but you made a choice.

So I can‘t help but think,
We’ve just come so far, after all,
To let this door become a wall.

Is he everything you wanted?
Is he everything I wasn’t?
Is everything I did,
Just a meaningless moment?

Is this all?
Is this the final straw?
Because after this I see,
Nothing but the door closing on me.

Because I know all I’m feeling,
Is something I can’t tell you,
You’re already gone…
And I’m left holding myself up
against a wall.

This song could go in many different ways: it could be a breakup, it could be about losing a friend, it could be about a sister... But for the most part, I wrote this to create the imagery of sudden realization: that moment where you slide down the wall, being hurt that so much has changed, but accepting it even though you have support of a wall to hold you up from the intensity of it.

Simple image, but I wanted to emphasize how complex it was. I hope you all enjoy it and take away strength from it: change is inevitable, but facing and accepting it alone makes you stronger than you could ever imagine.
