Holding Me Back
I packed my things and walked out the door
Never planning on coming back for more
You’ll wake up and take a breath
Read the note that I left for you
You can cry, you can laugh
But know I might not come back to you
I might be young and careless
But I have to do this cause
There’s a world out there waiting for me
And you’re holding me back from what I’m supposed to be
How can I fly when you’re holding me down?
And my dreams can’t chase themselves
I’ll write and call every night
I’ll make you proud with my name in lights
I’m sorry but I have to leave
Because you were holding me back from following my dream
I drove down the highway with the radio on
Dreaming of them playing my song
I sat back and thought of the day
When I sing center stage
I think of a sold-out show
With you sitting in the front row
I might be young and careless
But I have to do this cause
There’s a world out there waiting for me
And you’re holding me back from what I’m supposed to be
How can I fly when you’re holding me down?
And my dreams can’t chase themselves
I’ll write and call every night
I’ll make you proud with my name in lights
I’m sorry but I have to leave
Because you were holding me back from following my dream
I had always believed that dreams became reality
But I learned the truth that everything may not happen to you
So I cry over a shattered dream and hope you still love me
I am young and careless
And now I have to say this cause
There’s a world out there waiting for me
And you tried to hold me back from being what I wanted to be
You held me down so I wouldn’t fall
And gave me the strength to do it all
I’ll come home and live my life
I now know everything will be alright
I never really thought why I would leave
When you were holding me back from being crushed by my dream
I thought you were holding me back from following my dream
But really you were just trying to protect me
From heartbreak, from sadness
From hurting, from darkness
You held me back to protect me from my dream
