We Are Now Beautifully Lost In New York City's Arms
Verse 1:
We are running after freezing sidewalks,
and I watch the streetlights flicker for you.
Snow buries time here; we are both lost clocks,
with our lives gone miserably askew.
Verse 2:
Your numb eyes shed tears of New York’s glory,
while mine shed mocking secrets and cold fears.
We’re now stars of a great, painful story,
so shield yourself from unforgiving jeers.
CHORUS X2:
Cities make me feel beautifully lost,
but you make me feel so terribly found.
We are finally free, but at what cost?
Are confused souls worth being around?
*Bridge*
Make me feel special, like dizzying lights.
Make me feel wanted, like children’s saved kites.
Verse 4:
`Taxis are more consistent than you are,
but I still want you to stay here with me.
Should you leave me, please don’t go very far---
We’ve things to do together, don’t you see?
Verse 5:
Skyscrapers scrape my burdened, bitter hands;
they bleed grief only you can save me from.
Now I wish New York City had more land,
and that my grief’s strings were all you could strum.
CHORUS X 2
Verse 6:
We’re lost in the shade of these tall buildings---
it is shade unwanted, shade gone too old.
It is shade like us, and like bartered rings.
But perhaps the shade will make us feel bold.
Verse 7:
By the way, I can’t wait for winter’s flight.
Can you imagine these streets in the spring?
They’ll finally have been rid of the night,
and might tell us what tomorrow will bring.
CHORUS
