There is a world overhead,
Where chances go when actuality’s fled.
It swims with could haves, should haves done.
It’s glimmering light taunts everyone.

How many happy chances gone?
Blown away from curtains drawn.
Just a block away and we’d never have met.
It’s a happy chance that we’re here yet.

See that water raining down?
See the eons it’s been underground.
Just a few more minutes in river or sea,
And it wouldn’t be raining down on me.

But don’t sit and mourn about your strife,
You, who take the place of other life.
Just one happy chance for you,
Means others forced to say adieu.

How many happy chances gone?
Blown away from curtains drawn.
Just a block away and we’d never have met.
It’s a happy chance that we’re here yet.

So give it a whirl, a spin in awe.
It’s a happy chance we’re here at all
One grain of sand shifted out of place
And I’d be staring at a different face.

How many happy chances gone?
Blown away from curtains drawn.
Just a block away and we’d never have met.
It’s a happy chance that we’re here yet.
