The Tale of Two Loners
You stood there alone
Back against the wall
I sat here by myself
Invisible to everyone else
We met in a crowd
They didn't want us
Two loners, side by side
Hellos and awkward smiles
Looking around, finding conversation
Nobody knows us
But we know each other
Not a word spoken
But your glances
Tell me all that I need to know
People emerge
From their parties and euphorias
Everyone's running
You stroll by the door, waiting
I put my arms in front of me
Guarding something that's not there
Two loners, looking away
Pretending the hellos
Never took place
Nobody knows us
But we know each other
Not a word spoken
Not a look exchanged
But everything's different now
