Doorstop (I've Never Been More Aware)
I feel like a doorstop
Propping the way for unwanted guests
I feel like a kayak
Plunging over the cliff that will lead to their deaths
I feel like an arrow
Causing anything but smiles as it hits its mark
I feel like a time bomb
Ticking to zero on a volatile clock
And I've never been more aware
How each breath I take seems to scrape in my throat
And I've never been more aware
Of how the water that cleanses only makes me choke
And I've never been more aware
That I stare with dulled eyes, unresponsive to change
And I've never been more aware
Of the finite thread that separates my life from pain
I wish I were a brain cell
Always alight with a flurry of facts
I wish I were a magnet
An object that doesn't need charm to attract
I wish I were a painting
Colorful canvas hung up for all to see
I wish I were a music note
The sounds collide to form a symphony
And I've never been more aware
Of the pleasure that stems from mechanical things
And I've never been more aware
That before I can talk, I must first learn to sing
And I've never been more aware
Of how silence has shapes and speaks words of its own
And I've never been more aware
When I need someone, I'm still designed to be alone
And I've never been more aware
That my shell of a body holds nothing more of use
And I've never been more aware
Of how much that I gain when I'm destined to lose
I feel like a doorstop
