"Maybe you can't enjoy your life and put it into the bank, too." -Willa Cather, Neighbor Rosicky

They say young love is a myth,
And baby, if that’s true,
Then you’re the Cupid to my Psyche,
We are the perfect two.

They say young love’s a fairytale,
But baby, it’s our fate,
Because you’re the prince to my princess,
Not a second too late.

They may say all these things
But I don’t care what they believe.

‘Cuz you’re the yin to my yang
And all those other things.
Baby you’re my other half,
You’re what my future brings.
It’s just you and me
So forget what they say.

They say young love is ignorance,
But ignorance is bliss,
You’re the tree to my field of dreams,
And my dream is this.

They may say all these things,
But I don’t care what they believe.

Because you’re the stars to my sky
And all those other things,
I know that we can make it last
You’re what my future brings.
It’s just you and me
So forget what they say.

They say that love is relative
And baby if that’s true
Then you’re the hands and I’m the clock
All my time is for you.

‘Cuz you’re the pen to my paper
And all those other things.
You’re what I want ‘til the end of time
This is what our future brings.
Baby it’s just you and me

Who cares what they say.

The author's comments:

“They Say” is the love song that I had to write during our poetry unit at school. I have a significant other, so the topic of love was a pretty easy thing to write about. Basically this song is a song to my boyfriend about people’s opinions on our relationship. We started dating at thirteen (I know, we were really young), and I constantly heard from my family that it probably would not last. Now it is three years later and I don’t hear about it anymore, but I know that there out people out there that constantly hear “You’re too young to know what love it, young love is a myth, young love blah blah blah.” This song is kind of an inappropriate finger to those that believe that about young love.
